Support for Conservation

Conservation

Collection care and maintenance is a vital part of our role as preservers of cultural history and creative output. Donor support helps ensure that current and future audiences can continue to engage with great works of art.

Our conservation efforts include:

  • Research of materials and techniques
  • Condition reporting and damage documentation
  • Interventional object treatment
  • Technical study and field advancement

Conservators also advise on desirable environmental conditions, including lighting, temperature, relative humidity, presentation, loans, and general care. Many of the museum's conservation activities take place in the museum’s Center for Conservation.

Donor Spotlight: Greg Morse

Having developed an interest in art as a young person, Greg Morse has visited art museums across the US and around the world.

Greg first became aware of the Eskenazi Museum when conducting research for an Art History 101 course. He became instantly intrigued with the building and expansion of these collections. In the spring of 2024, he was invited to a tour of the museum’s conservation and storage facilities. During the tour, Greg learned of the industry-wide need for graduate programs geared toward conservation. Inspired, Greg established a collections care endowment through a major planned gift commitment with the Eskenazi Museum of Art.

“I felt this was a place where I could help. I appreciate the work that keeps these various works preserved, protected, and maintained for future generations. This has become my way of working behind the scenes to provide a way for these works to continue to be appreciated and enjoyed.”
