Celebrating a generous gift of photographs from Lee Marks and John C. DePrez Jr., this exhibition explores the motivation to view our world through a camera. Highlighting diverse artistic approaches across photographic history, the works reveal how artists have responded to the natural and built environments, the human form, conflict, and the medium of light itself.

This exhibition explores David Smith’s Forgings, one of the renowned sculptor’s most daring and innovative series, created during his time teaching at Indiana University, Bloomington, from 1954 to 1955.

Ancient After Hours: Greek and Roman Party Culture (500 BCE–500 CE) highlights the work of twelve first-year undergraduates, who developed an exhibition through the College of Arts and Sciences' Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience Program (ASURE).

Migration and Memory: Three Immigrant Artists

To mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibition highlights recent acquisitions by three twentieth-century American immigrant artists. Born in Germany and the Soviet Union, the Jewish artists Hannelore Baron, Günther Aron, and Marc Klionsky fled oppressive regimes and resettled in the United States. Their work reflects experiences of navigating displacement and the challenges of holding multiple cultural identities.

Textiles that Travel: Nomadic Living in Africa

Textiles that Travel: Nomadic Living in Africa examines the role of textiles—blankets, tents, and clothing—among nomadic cultures. It explores how cloth acts as a portable medium to foster such uses for people pursuing itinerant lifestyles.

A long ceremonial shawl or scarf from Indonesia, woven in cotton with gold-wrapped threads, is folded and draped on a white surface. It has a brightly colored floral motif and tasseled ends.

Fashioned by Women: Indonesian Clothing

Fashioned by Women: Indonesian Clothing presents dyed and handwoven attire made since the nineteenth century across multiple cultures in the Indonesian archipelago. It explores the significant contributions of women artists to create these stunning garments and recognizes their artistry as fashionable dress.

Embodying the Sacred: Jewish Ritual Art from the Bernard Museum of Judaica

Saturday, October 17, 2026, 10 a.m.—Sunday, October 24, 2027, 5 p.m.

Jewish religious practice—the observance of Shabbat (the weekly Sabbath), holidays, and life cycle events—utilizes a wide range of ritual objects (often referred to as “Judaica” or Jewish ritual art). This exhibition features thirteen pre-World War II Judaica objects on loan from the Bernard Museum of Judaica, Temple Emanuel-El, New York City. The exhibition highlights objects that enhance the sensory experience of religious practice and the ritual engagement with sacred text.
