Jean A. Graves began her role as Patricia and Joel Meier Chair of Education in 2023. In addition to serving on the museum’s senior leadership team, Graves oversees an education department that focuses on comprehensive course-connected experiences, pre-K–12 engagement, art therapy programs, and public programming. She advances the department’s creative, mission-driven strategy for learning that prioritizes authentic experiences with works of art from the museum’s collection of more than 45,000 objects. Previously, Graves held positions at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Taft Museum of Art. She also taught museum-related courses at IU, IUPUI, and Kent State University, and served as a consultant on docent training for institutions that include Wiley House Museum at IU and The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. Her writings on museum education have been published in Art Education and Studies in Art Education. Graves received her MA in art history from Boston University and her PhD in art education from IU.
