Juliet Graver Istrabadi is the Curator of Art of the Ancient World. She oversees a collection that includes more than 5,000 outstanding examples of ancient jewelry as well as objects from the Near East, ancient Egypt, and the Classical world. Since joining the Eskenazi Museum of Art in 2009, Istrabadi has organized the following exhibitions: The Colors of Classical Art (2014, with Julie Van Voorhis); Ancient Networks: Trade in the Mediterranean and Near East from the Bronze Age through the Roman Period(2013); Roman Coins: Good and Bad Emperors (2012); and Gods and Heroes: A Selection of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Art from the Indiana University Art Museum (2011). Her research interests are broad, but a major area of focus is ancient jewelry. Before joining the museum, Istrabadi was Curator of Prints at Huguenot Heritage in New York and Associate Curator at the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University in Indiana. She also served as an adjunct professor at a number of universities in Indiana, including Herron School of Art, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University Calumet, Valparaiso University, and Indiana State University. Istrabadi received her BFA at Syracuse University and her MA in art history from Indiana University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in art history.
