About this Work

Ruth Duckworth, who emigrated from Germany to Britain in 1936, is considered one of the twentieth century’s most innovative ceramic artists. Her influences range from ancient and non-Western pottery to modernist sculpture. Works such as this vessel, with its weathered surface and patterning suggestive of tree rings, evoke the natural world.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
