The fingerprinted surfaces of Rembrandt Bugatti’s clay models—preserved in the bronze casts—give his sculptures a spontaneous, expressive feel, similar to Impressionist painting. Bugatti, a leading sculptor of animal subjects, worked on-site at the Antwerp Zoo, closely observing the movements and forms of the animals.
