The Bazzanti workshop in Florence produced copies of popular sculptures for the tourist market. This marble depiction of Ariadne, the daughter of the mythical King Minos of Crete, reproduces a neoclassical work by German sculptor von Dannecker, who was influenced by the work of Antonio Canova and ancient Roman sculptures.
Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
