Although modernist photographers preferred the Ranchos de Taos's classic rear view with its simple, bulbous forms, the church's front entrance wasn't completely ignored. Numerous artists, such as Andreas Feininger, Fritz Kaeser, and Douglas Kent Hall, were attracted by the buidling's beautifully carved door lintel, towered facade, and front courtyard. This truncated view as seen from over the courtyard wall was part of Kaeser's decades long Portfolio Mission series, which he began in the 1940s and continued through the 1960s.
