About this Work

Schick initially constructed metal forms, necklaces, and armbands that were strongly influenced by the designs of Indiana University metalsmith Alma Eikerman. By the 1980s, however, she had redefined the concept of jewelry, instead creating large “wearable” sculptures. Brightly colored and patterned, works such as this necklace are made of wood and reed rather than the metals that are traditional in jewelry.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
