Image Forthcoming

Although other pigments, made from clays and minerals, where available to artists the pigments used here, red, black and a creamy yellow are the most common. Maya artists were given flexibility in their work, styles changed over time and preferred artists were rewarded with more commissions.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
