Sculpture comprised of multi-faceted, blocky forms depicting a human figure. The grey colored figure stands on a circular base.
Lipchitz arrived in Paris in 1909 after studying architecture in his native Lithuania. In Paris, he befriended Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris, both pioneers of Cubism, and he began applying the principles of Cubist painting to sculpture. Draped Woman is constructed of geometric cubes and planes, giving it an architectonic sensibility. Lipchitz typically cast seven examples of his sculptures. This example was cast in New York, where he settled during World War II.
