A flask with a spherical body, flat base, and two vertical spouts with an arched handle between them. The body is decorated with bands of geometric patterns that arch upward around a dolphin placed on the lower body on both sides of the vessel.
Many Italic cultures flourished in Italy in the period between the eighth and second centuries BCE. They coexisted, more or less peacefully, with their Etruscan, Greek, and Roman neighbors. The Daunians were a group that settled in Apulia, along the southeast coast of Italy. Their pottery, as this example attests, is characterized by bold patterns and vibrant color.
