A mace head in the form of a five-point star with a cylindrical hole at the center.

Peruvian mace heads come in a variety of shapes and sizes. In this case the mace head is a five-point star with a central hole used for its mounting. It is unclear if this object was used for warfare, but given the condition, it seems more likely that it was reserved for ceremonial purposes.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
