About this Work

Aztec culture dominated much of Mesoamerica during the Post-Classic period, but many Post-Classic objects were the work of other poeples, especially the Mixtec, who sometimes worked for Aztec elites. Mixtec ornaments were particularly admired. This gold pendant depicts Ehecatl, the Aztec wind deity, though the human aspects suggests it may show a priest impersonating the deity, rather than the deity itself.
