These earrings are among the most spectacular in the Berry collection, both for their particularly fine workmanship, and for the original color inlay which is partially preserved. They represent one of the richest and most exuberant earring types found in Late Classical and Early Hellenistic jewelry, excelling in their elaborate interplay of ornamentation, pendants, colors, and motifs. They all employ rather large discs or rosette-discs with either conical or pyramidal pendants, and they are enhanced, in most cases, by additional pendants which would have swirled around with the motion of the wearer.
Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
