Four figures are working in a farmyard. Two feed chickens while another is approaching a donkey. Farmhouse, barn, and a windmill are visible in the background.
This print is based on a section of Thomas Hart Benton's murals in the State Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri. It depicts a mule-powered sorghum mill in the middle ground. After the print was published incorrectly as a Kansas scene, a critic noted, "Though appreciation of the design is not dependent upon familiarity with the locality from which it is derived, this lithograph is definitely an interpretation of a specific phase of life in the United States."
