About this Work

The Venetian workshop of Paolo Veneziano and his three sons specialized in altarpieces, including small portable altarpieces for use at home or when traveling. Byzantine mosaics, well known in Venice thanks to its trading activities with the Byzantine capital of Constantinople, inspired these panels’ gold backgrounds and jewel-like colors.
