A variety of schematically drawn beach houses, boats, and other symbols relating to the beach against a blue-gray background. The abstract objects are in a variety of colors, with pops of color that stand against the dark streaky background.
Loren MacIver received her only formal artistic training as a child at the Art Students League in New York City. She found employment with the Federal Art Project during the Depression, and was featured in the prestigious Fourteen Americans exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1946. Many of her paintings were inspired by the seaside, as she spent many of her summers at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In an abstracted, almost hieroglyphic manner, Seaside depicts the symbols of summer, such as beach houses and boats against a background of watery blue.
