About this Work

Born in Cuba, Renelío Marin studied at the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in Havana, before coming to the United States to continue his education. He uses a spontaneous style and splashes of layered color to represent the people and places in both countries. Marin intentionally includes minorities in his pictures, because as he said, “When you go to shows and galleries you don't see many pieces representing real people.” Among his favorite subjects is the transient relationship of people of different ages, genders, races, and occupations, crossing paths on the streets of New York City, as seen in this work (our first example by the artist) of spectators at a parade.
