About this Work

One of the pioneering metalsmiths of the twentieth century, Alma Eikerman founded Indiana University’s metals and jewelry department in 1947. Many of her students also became nationally recognized artists. The simplicity of form and material that characterize her silver vessels and jewelry reflect, in part, her study with master silversmiths in Denmark and Sweden in 1948.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
