A vessel with an ovoid base and a short neck, which has a small decorated area with red, blue, and white beads. There is a short, cylindrical leather lid at the top of the neck. The base is colored with dark brown/black and red pigments, and is bound with leather straps, including coiling strands and a braided handle.
This vessel for holding milk includes multiple repairs made within a Tukana community to address cracks and breaks in the wood that may have resulted from repeated use. These repairs use pieces of leather and fiber, stitched vertically on the vessel, to prevent leaks. Such prominent repairs suggest the importance of this vessel to its former owner for maintaining the object’s function.
