About this Work

A contemporary realist painter who finds the fantastic and the humorous in the everyday life, Nancy Morgan Barnes has explored narrative figure painting, still life, and portraiture for more than thirty years. Here she studies her husband, the painter Robert Barnes, with typical intensity. Barnes, a long-time professor of painting at Indiana University, is seen against the lively backdrop of his own work, Molinard-Grasse (1996), from his "Blood and Perfume" series.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
