[2] Per inscription on the recto. Hermine Franziska Klimt, the artist’s younger sister, was living with him when he died, after which his estate passed into her care; her signature is thus found on the recto of this and numerous other drawings, many of which were sold at auction throughout the early 1930s. It is not known whether the present drawing was still in her possession or already sold at the time of her death.
