Blue and Green Vase

The son of a distinguished potter Miyashita Zenju (1901–1968) Zenji helped his father with his work. He graduated from Kyoto Art University and began exhibiting in 1964. Recognized as a major talent he has won numerous prizes and his work is in many public and private collections. This is an example of his “colored clay” work (saidei). He blends cobalt, chrome and other metallic pigments into the clay which then applies to the body of the pot in overlapping layers.
