Pair of Doors

This pair of doors, probably once installed in an urban house of a rich merchant or bureaucrat, is decorated with delicate paintings of figures, animals, and gardens, covered in a coat of clear lacquer. The themes of the hunt, pursuit of love, and lush garden scenes are drawn from Persian literature. Doors themselves even became the subject of poetry.
