Grotesque Head

The beautifully modeled head of a tough combatant with cauliflower ears comes from an area of the world encompassing the modern nations of Pakistan and Afghanistan, which was once home to the mighty Kushan kings and their kingdom of Gandhara. The Kushan kingdom sat astride the great trade routes of Central Asia, and, as a result, sculptures such as this one show a blending of Eastern and Western styles.
