Ichikawa Danjurō VII as Gorō in the Play Yanone

Actors of the Danjurō lineage were among the most beloved thespians of the kabuki theatre. Here, in the signature role in the cycle of plays centering on the Soga brothers and their story of revenge, Soga no Gorō is sharpening his arrow on a whetstone set in a tub of water.
