Renaissance

The museum’s Renaissance collection represents a range of artistic traditions from western Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Though artists cultivated regional styles, their work also reveals that artistic and intellectual ideas frequently traveled across international borders. During this period, artists explored new approaches to sacred images and were also influenced by humanism, a movement that revived interest in classical literature and mythology.
