East Asia

The museum’s East Asian art collection includes works of art primarily from China and Japan with fewer works representing Korea. The museum’s collection features a range of objects including paintings, woodblock prints, sculptures, and ceramics. The paintings in particular showcase the infusion of shared religions and cultures across East Asia as well as mutual artistic practices. Before developing their own scripts, Koreans and Japanese used the Chinese language for their written communications and the Chinese traditions of painting with a brush on paper or silk.
