Asian Art

From Japanese ceramics to Chinese scrolls to Indian sculptures, the museum’s Asian art collection covers a vast period of time from the second millennium BC to the present, and a geographic area from the Arabian Peninsula to Japan and from the Central Asian countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Southeast Asian nations of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. This comprehensive collection highlights iconographic traditions and styles across a diverse array of languages, cultures, religions, and histories. Many of these cultures and countries influenced each other’s aesthetic traditions, creating new, hybrid styles.
