Thomas Chambers (1808–1869): American Marine and Landscape Painter

March 27 to May 30, 2010

The IU Art Museum serves as the final venue for the first museum exhibition devoted to nineteenth-century American painter Thomas Chambers. Approximately half the works in the exhibition are drawn from the permanent collection of the IU Art Museum, with the remainder from private and public collections. Over forty paintings by Chambers, as well as works by his contemporaries, will be on display, providing a comprehensive introduction to Chambers and his role in the development of popular American landscape and maritime painting.
