1998, Gift to the Indiana University Art Museum from Morton C. Bradley, Jr., Arlington, MA

after 1944–1998, Collection of Morton C. Bradley, Jr., (1912–2004) Arlington, MA [1]

unknown dates, with Richard B. Faber, Boston(?), MA [2]

[1] Bradley apparently started collecting art in 1944 after joining the Fogg Art Museum as a painting conservator (as noted in a report on Mr. Bradley’s collection authored by Kathleen Foster, former Indiana University Art Museum curator of Western Art after 1800, dated December 19, 1991; in donor files).

[2] Per museum’s collectors’ files. The details of any transaction with Faber, a Boston antiques dealer, are not documented. Bradley received many of his paintings from local antiques dealers who brought him inexpensive paintings to purchase for his conversation practice (source as above).

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
