About this Work

Marco Ricci’s experience as a stage designer emerges in his imaginary landscapes, where antique ruins are freely rearranged for picturesque and dramatic effect. Another level of fantasy and nostalgia appears in his Landscape with Ruins of Buildings and a Large Fountain, where costumed figures evoke the art of the classical era as well as the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Selecting from and manipulating the past, Ricci created a vision of antiquity in sympathy with the baroque and rococo taste of his own day.
