About this Work

Known as tampan, ceremonial textiles from the Lampong region were created with two primary colors, red representing the sacred realm, and blue, the secular. These textiles were used by all levels of society at a number of different ceremonies relating to transitions from one state to the next, including birth, marriage, and death. Historically marriage ceremonies could have involved over one hundred tampan.
