About this Work

The Central Andes includes present-day Peru and parts of Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. There ceramics, stone sculpture, metalworking, and textiles are important parts of the archeological record. Sophisticated metallurgic techniques, as are demonstrated here, first developed in the Central Andes and then spread north.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
