About this Work

In this fine bracelet, the lions are confronted, ferociously snarling at each other. The flexibility of the hoop as well as the attention to sculptural detail attest to the skills of the Early Hellenistic goldsmith. Bracelets with animals’ became popular in the Greek world toward the end of the fifth century, when they took the fancy of Greek goldsmiths and their customers.
