About this Work

This diadem, of a flat pedimental shape with a raised triangular center, is decorated with a rich stamped palmette design, executed in repoussé over a mold. It begins with a large nine-petal palmette in the center, set into a calyx of leaves. Voluted tendrils roll freely toward either side, sprouting leaves and blossoms grow from the interstices. The definition of the individual forms is crisp and sharp, the leaves often with fringed edges, nicely capturing the vegetable, organic character of the design.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
