About this Work

Celedon refers both to the name of the pale green glaze as well as the ceramic type. Although greenish glazes have a long history in China, the ceramics produced in the Northern and Southern Song dynasties are the ones most sought after by collecors in China and in the West.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
