About this Work

This srtiking ceramic vase is an example of Chinese Cizhou ware a kind of stoneware produced from the Song dynasty (960-1279) onward. To create the decoration first tthe body of the form is covered in white slip, then designs, usually in a contrasting brown or black glaze, are applied to the surface.
