[1] Harry Craig Nail, Jr. was an art dealer.

[2] Purchase from Mrs. L. Guy Blackmer noted on accession card (in registration files); information probably from dealer. She presumably inherited the statuette from her husband.

[3] A prominent name in St. Louis, Blackmer was a banker, industrialist, and member of the City Art Museum board (elected 1936). He was also an ardent collector, particularly of Chinese art.
