About this Work

Rather than depict a three-dimensional work, this poster for an exhibition of Henri Matisse's sculpture and three paintings is a composition based on a paper cut-out collage and a drawing. The simple, thick black lines of the woman's face and floral patterns recall the artist's imagery for his last great project: the interior designs for the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary in Vence, France.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
