[1] The Metropolitan Museum of Art had a large sale of deaccessioned art from its Egyptian collection.

[2] William Lowe Bryan (1860-1955) was President of Indiana University from 1902-1937. After his death, a memorial fund was established in his honor; this fund supported the purchase of art for the Indiana University Art Museum.

[3] Helen Miller Gould Shepard (1868-1938) was the daughter of New York businessman Jay Gould and Helen Day Miller Gould. She was an art collector and well-known philanthropist.
