[1] The Metropolitan Museum of Art had a large sale of deaccessioned art from its Egyptian collection.

[2] William Lowe Bryan (1860-1955) was President of Indiana University from 1902-1937. After his death, a memorial fund was established in his honor; this fund supported the purchase of art for the Indiana University Art Museum.

[3] Lucy Wharton Drexel (1867-1944), an heiress from Philadelphia, was the daughter of Joseph W. Drexel, the philanthropist and co-founder of Drexel, Morgan & Co., and Lucy Wharton. She settled in New York after her marriage to Eric B. Dahlgren in 1890 and established her own reputation as a philanthropist. A collector of antiquities, she was a supporter and donor to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Penn Museum.
