About this Work

Self-taught painter Raúl Milián employed an intensive process in which he applied paint to paper or cardboard and then removed it to leave only a stain, repeating this procedure several times to create a multi-layered texture. His dense, all-over compositions are distinguished by the intricate and calligraphic use of line.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
