Tanabe Kōchikusai was one of Shōno Shōunsai’s seven students who constituted a group called Shomonkai. Influenced by his teacher’s groundbreaking 1958 work Shimmering of Heated Air, Kōchikusai created Flight using the same parallel-line technique to express motion.
