About this Work

During the 1970s, Steinberg frequently used rubber stamps, asemic (wordless) writing, and a wide variety of styles when it came to the rendering of figures. Of these seven figures, none is exactly like the others, although they each have the stylized quality for which Steinberg was famous. Although the figure on the left is a stereotypical cowboy type, the others suggest the bustle of life on a city street with an amalgamation of people of all shapes and sizes.
