About this Work

This work is the largest Leonard Baskin print in the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art's collection and represents one of a dozen monumental-sized woodcuts created between 1952 and 1963. The subject of Haman reflects Baskin’s interest in characters from the Jewish Bible. Haman, a vizier in the Persian Empire, is the main antagonist in the Book of Esther and re-appears in other Baskin prints.

Provenance research is ongoing for this and many other items in the Eskenazi Museum of Art permanent collection. For more information about the provenance of this artwork, please contact the department curator with specific questions.
