A nationally recognized textile artist and painter, Miriam Schapiro worked on a series of unique collaged monoprints or small variant editions at Echo Press in 1985. Although the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art's Echo Press Archive did not automatically receive such one-of-a-kind works, several examples were acquired as gifts to the archive.

Schapiro, who was part of the Patterns and Decoration (P & D) art movement of the 1970s, coined the term "femmage" or feminist collage. She, along with fellow feminist artist Melissa Meyer, saw it as connected to techniques traditionally associated with women's crafts, such piecing, appliqueing, cooking, and sewing. As such, even when making a fine art print, Schapiro often used fabrics and extensive hand work. Some of her works, such as this print suggesting a traditional broad collar necklace, also directly reference women's clothing or accessories as their theme.
