About this Work

This image may relate to the artist's studies of children and plants as part of his allegory of Purgatory. Such imagery was also used to illustrate Parker Tyler's poem "Yesterday's Children" (1944). Tyler co-edited the Surrealist journal View with Charles Henri Ford, Pavel Tchelitchew's life partner.
