A brooch in a triangular shape with rounded edges. The surface of the brooch is punctuated by small holes. Metal cut-outs in the shape of the sun, the moon, and stars hang from the right side of the brooch.
Internationally renowned for his kinetic sculpture, George Rickey also created a small body of jewelry. These rare works—primarily brooches and hair ornaments—can be seen as miniature sculptures, even including moving elements. This brooch was made when he was a visiting professor at Indiana University. Like this brooch, with its astronomical imagery, Rickey’s early mobiles and kinetic sculptures often employed whimsical or lyrical elements.
